Active Churches
There are currently about 200 hundred active churches in Moscow. At the beginning of the 20th century there were 677 churches within the city borders, but they were destroyed during Revolution.

The Church of the Ascension
The Church of the Ascension was built in 1532 on the imperial estate of Kolomenskoye, near Moscow, to celebrate the birth of the prince who was to become Tsar Ivan IV (The Terrible). One of the earliest examples of a traditional wooden tent roofed church on a stone and brick substructure, it had a great influence on the development of Russian ecclesiastical architecture.

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
The Christ the Savior Cathedral was completed in 1883, in memory of the Russian victory over Napoleon by Konstantin Ton. Russian architect, founder of so called Russian Byzantine style. His most famous design are: Christ the Savior's Cathedral, The Great Kremlin Palace, The Armory Chamber, in Moscow Kremlin. The station buildings on Oktyabrskaya railway in Moscow and St.Petersburg. The Christ the Savior Cathedral was destroyed in December 5th, 1931 - during the Stalin's time, because communists decided to build "Soviet Palace" for their meetings. The Cathedral was recovered during 1995 - 2000.
